Knights fall to Runnin’ Lopes
Lamar, Colo. – Breonna Shelby led North Platte scorers with 12 points, but the Knights came up short in a 63-51 loss to the Runnin' Lopes of Lamar on Saturday afternoon.
Shelby's 12 points came on 5-of-6 shooting from the floor, including 2-for-2 from beyond the arc. Abigail Haas also scored in double figures finishing with 10 points, while Zaily Mazarin led the Knights on the boards with seven rebounds.
"We were not ready to play at the start of both halves and that's what cost us," head coach Jeff Thurman said. "Lamar made the necessary plays, but we just could not get out of our own way."
North Platte struggled offensively early, managing just six points in the opening quarter as Lamar jumped out to a 17-6 lead.
The Knights settled into an offensive rhythm as the game went on, with the remainder of the contest being played more evenly. However, Lamar was able to slightly extend its advantage and secure the victory.
"We need to put this game behind us and focus on a solid Northeastern team on Wednesday," Thurman said. "We have to start fast and value the basketball."
North Platte (5-14) returns to Region 9 play on Wednesday against Northeastern Junior College. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. inside the McDonald-Belton Gymnasium in North Platte.
