Knights drop doubleheader to Cavaliers

Council Bluffs, Iowa - North Platte dropped a pair of games to Kankakee Community College on Friday afternoon.

In game one, Kankakee opened the scoring in the top of the fifth with a sacrifice fly, then added another run in the sixth when a runner tagged up on a fly ball to center field.

The Cavaliers broke the game open in the seventh, plating four runs for their biggest inning of the day. North Platte would get one run in the seventh after Sarah LeBere doubled to plate Heaven Hutchison.

Kaylee Davis started in the circle for the Knights, pitching six innings while allowing five hits and two unearned runs with two strikeouts and two walks.

Kankakee jumped out to an early lead in game two, scoring two runs in the first and adding two more in the second. North Platte got on the board when Alieze Moreno doubled to bring LeBere home in the fourth.

The Cavaliers kept the bats going with three runs in the fourth and another in the fifth. North Platte trimmed the deficit with two runs in the sixth, but Kankakee answered with a solo home run to center in the bottom half of the inning.

The Knights made a late push in the top of the seventh, scoring two runs, but could not complete the comeback.

Danica Unger started in the circle for the Knights, pitching three innings and allowing 11 hits and seven runs while walking two.

Knights (1-7) will round out their weekend road trip with Iowa Western Community College on Saturday. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
