Perimeter shooting aids Trinidad State in win over North Platte
Trinidad, Colo. – Bruce Carpenter led three North Platte players in double digits, but it was not enough to slow down the Trojans of Trinidad State College on Friday night, 109-76.
Carpenter's team high 30 points came on 8-of-18 shooting from the field, while Ramiah Adedigba (14) and Davion Evans (11) rounded out the Knights players in double figures. North Platte finished the game shooting 44.6 percent from the field, while connecting on 22-of-26 free throw opportunities.
The Trojans knocked down five of their eight first half three-point field goals in the opening eight minutes. Trinidad continued to showcase their perimeter shooting skills, as their final three-point field goal of the half stretched the margin to 43-13 with 7:06 remaining. North Platte chipped into the deficit over the final minutes, but the home team carried a 60-33 advantage into the break.
In the second half, the Knights pulled within 21 after a Trinidad turnover led to a transition jam by Carpenter. The Trinidad offense never cooled down in the final 13:45, as they put the finishing touches on their victory. The Trojans closed out the game shooting 54.3 percent from the field, while forcing 16 North Platte turnovers.
The Knights (12-14, 2-8 Region IX South) will close out the weekend road trip against Otero Junior College on Saturday. Tip is set for 5 p.m. in La Junta, Colo.
